Margao: The Gawaliwado road of Fatorda was on Thursday named after Janu Janardhan Hiranwale, who was a respected person of Gawali samaj from this area.
Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai, Margao Municipal Council (MMC) Lyndon Pereira, former councilor Peter Fernandes, councilors of MMC and family members of Janu Hiranwale were present on the occasion.
Janu Hiranwale had committed himself for the betterment of Gawali samaj and had tried to get the works done from Gawaliwada with the help of MLA Sardesai. He succumbed to COVID infection recently.
Taking the cognizance of his selfless work and contribution, Sardesai had decided to name the road from this area after Janu Hiranwale. This was accepted by MMC meeting and a resolution was passed in that direction.
“We need to always take cognizance of good work done by any person. Janu was a grass root level worker, who never asked anything for himself, but worked for the community and people. This made us think of naming this road after Janu Hiranwale.” Sardesai said.
He recalled that Janu was very much keen to construct the Shree Mharai temple in this area and hence it was constructed. “He always worked for the betterment of society.” Sardesai said.
“Janu was of the opinion that politicians should not bribe voters for support. However, they should work in the best interest.” Sardesai said.
Sardesai also assured the people from Gawaliwada to complete all pending works shortly.
The family members of Janu Hiranwale thanked Sardesai for giving Janu Hiranwale such respect, which will remain forever.
