Panaji: Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant will undergo a crucial floor test on Wednesday (today) at 11.30 a.m. during the specially summoned Assembly Session.

Governor Mridula Sinha has called for a special day long session to conduct floor test for Sawant, who was sworn in on Monday, after the demise of Manohar Parrikar.

Sawant, 45, is heading a coalition of BJP, Goa Forward Party, MGP and Independents.

Congress is the main opposition party in State legislative Assembly.

Sawant enjoys support of 20 members (excluding him) in the Assembly whose strength has been reduced from 40 to 36. While two members including Parrikar and BJP MLA Francis D’Souza has expired, two Congress MLAs have resigned as members of the House to join BJP.

Two time Sankhali MLA who is heading 12 member BJP legislative group has support of three each from Goa Forward Party, MGP and Independents.

The support for Sawant might be reduced to 19 as BJP MLA Pandurang Madkaikar who had brain stroke last year has been bed ridden. There was no clarity whether he would join other members during the floor test.

Sawant who was Speaker of Goa Legislative Assembly as resigned from the post, before being sworn in by Governor.

Deputy Speaker of the Assembly Michael Lobo would be Presiding over the Assembly proceedings on Wednesday in absence of Speaker.
