Panaji: Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant on Thursday flagged off a special free train from Karmali Railway Station to Prayagraj (UP) for devotees to participate in the Mahakumbh.
The state government has decided to run three free trains from Goa to Prayagraj for devotees who wish to participate in the ongoing Mahakumbh.
The first train was flagged off on Thursday by the Chief Minister in the presence of State Social Welfare Minister Subhash Phal Desai, Art and Culture Minister Govind Gaude, BJP Goa President Damodar Naik, and others.
The train, carrying 1,000 devotees from different parts of Goa, departed for its 34-hour-long journey to Prayagraj.
The Chief Minister said that two more free trains, one on February 13 and another on February 21, will depart from Goa for Prayagraj. He mentioned that if there is more demand, the state government may consider operating additional free trains.
Sawant congratulated UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for hosting the successful historic event of Mahakumbh. He said that the devotees from Goa were eager to visit Prayagraj, prompting the state government to arrange these free trains.
He further stated that food on the journey would be provided by the state government. The devotees will have 24 hours at Mahakumbh, after which they will return to the railway station for their journey back, Sawant added.
