Fake currency racket: Five men from Chandigarh arrested

Panaji: Goa Police have arrested five persons from Chandigarh, who were holidaying in the coastal state, in connection with the fake currency racket.

Superintendent of Police (North) Utkrisht Prasoon told reporters on Monday that five persons from Chandigarh were arrested for using fake Indian currency in the parts of Panaji and its sub-urban Porvorim locality.

He said that all the five accused had arrived in Goa, a week ago.

“The accused were tracked using technical surveillance and search has led to recovery of different denominations of Rs 100, Rs 200 and Rs 2,000 notes,” the SP said.

He said that the total amount of fake currency, which was seized is around Rs 2,96,400. A case has been registered against them under sections 489A, 489B and 489C of Indian Penal Code at Panaji Police Station.
