Calangute : Calangute Police under the guidance of SP, North Shobhit Saxena and PI Nolasco Raposo shut down an illegal call centre at Amara Hotel, Gaurawado Calangute-Bardez on October 30, 2021.
According to the Police the call centre was being used to cheat citizens of United States of America by impersonating as officials of Social Security administration department/ Law Enforcement Authority of USA and convincing the victims that they have done illegal acts like fraud, illegal drugs peddling, defaulter for paying tax and to settle the illegal acts with the US government.
Victims were asked to pay money in the form of electronic payment mode i.e. Gift card, Target Card, Google Pay into electronic currency i.e. Paxful App/Bit Coin/ Crypto wallet and thereby withdrawing the money in Indian Currency at Ahmedabad Gujarat thus, cheating the citizens of USA
Five accused have been arrested in this connection. During the course of the raid the police seized 30 laptops including server laptop, 25 laptop chargers, 24 headphones, two routers along with adapter, mobile phones all worth Rs 20 lakh. Further investigation is on.
