Panaji: The election for new Speaker of Goa Legislative Assembly would be held during the monsoon session of the House scheduled to be held in July month, chief minister Pramod Sawant said.
Sawant told reporters that the monsoon session of the House would be held in the month of July during which the election for new Speaker would be conducted.
Goa Legislative Assembly currently does not have full time speaker as Sawant has resigned from the post to take over as chief minister of the state. Deputy Speaker Michael Lobo is officiating as the Speaker of the House.
Sawant said that the coalition partners would be taken into confidence before summoning the session and also deciding on the Speaker’s election.
The Chief Minister was addressing a press conference to analyse results of recently concluded Lok Sabha and assembly by-elections in four constituencies.
He said that the strength of BJP has increased from 14 to 17 on the floor of House resulting in being the largest unit.
BJP won in Shiroda, Mandrem and Mapusa assembly constituencies while it lost its fiefdom Panaji to Congress. Sawant said that the organization in Panaji would be built up extensively to ensure victory during next election.
“We are still trying to analyse how Panaji voters gave lead to BJP candidate in Lok Sabha election but defeated in assembly by-poll,” he said.
