Panaji: Goa Pradesh Congress Committee President Girish Chodankar has filed an application before the Supreme Court pleading for the early hearing of writ petition filed by him against Speaker of Goa Legislative Assembly Rajesh Patnekar in connection with the disqualification of ten MLAs, who had shifted side to BJP from the Congress.

In an application filed before the Apex Court on November 20, Chodankar has said that writ petition has not been listed after an order dated August 11, 2020 directing its listing in two weeks, notwithstanding 18 tentative dates being shown on the website of the court and 13 requests or applications seeking urgent listing, having been moved by the petitioner.

Chodankar had filed petition before the Supreme Court seeking a direction from the Court to Speaker to decide the disqualification petition filed by him against ten MLAs within period  of a month as the same has been pending since August 08, 2019.

Ten MLAs left resigned from the Congress party to join BJP in July 2019.

The petitioner has said that prior to the hearing on the petition on August 11, 2020, counsel for various respondents (MLAs) had already sought an adjournment which was vehemently opposed by him.
