Panaji: The opposition parties on Wednesday moved an adjournment motion demanding discussion on the allegations of corruption levelled by Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar against his own minister Govind Gaude.

Goa Forward party MLA Vijai Sardesai on Wednesday moved the amendment motion during the ongoing Budget session of the House.

Sardesai demanded that there should be discussion on the allegations as they are of serious nature.

Earlier this week, the Speaker had accused minister Gaude of involved in misappropriation of funds through a scheme of Art and Culture Department. Tawadkar had said that the money was paid to various clubs and organisations, without they holding the events.

When the motion was moved on Wednesday, chief minister Pramod Sawant said that under rule 69 of the House, the motion cannot be allowed as the Speaker himself is named in it.

Sardesai, however, continued pressing for the motion. He was supported by Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao.

Speaking on the floor of the House, the Speaker said that he had raised the issue when local sarpanchas brought it to his notice.

“The minister has assured that the matter would be investigated, so the issue is over,” he said.
