Congress urges govt to release a white paper on agri production

Panaji: The Congress party on Friday urged the State government to release White Paper on the fallow lands and crop production in the state.
GPCC General Secretary Moreno Rebelo accompanied by other leaders met Director of Agriculture seeking his attention towards non payment of subsidy and support price to the farmers. They demanded that the assistance should be increased.
The leaders including Viriato Fernades, Everson Vales, Muktamala Fondekar, Vishal Volvoikar, John Nazareth and others joined the protest.
Rebelo said that the farmers expect benefits from the schemes announced by the government. He accused Agriculture Department of failing to pass on these benefits to the farmers.
He pointed out that majority of the people involved in farming activity are Goans and they expect support from the government. Rebelo demanded that agiculture department should increase support price on the paddy and coconut and subsidy on the purchased machinery.
Everson Vales said that the government should declare the details of crop production and fallow land.
Viriato Fernandes said that the government has hatched a conspiracy to sell the agricultural land to outsiders, by discouraging farmers.
