Congress demands withdrawal of Goa govt circular mandating Yoga Day attendance

Panaji: The Congress party in Goa on Saturday demanded that the State Education department should “withdraw the circular mandating attendance at Yoga Day program on Sunday.”
State Directorate of Education has mandated all the schools to hold Yoga session on Sunday.
In a statement post on his social media, GPCC President Girish Chodankar said “yoga is a personal choice and should never become a compulsory obligation.”
He said that Dr Pramod Sawant-led Directorate of Education must withdraw the circular mandating attendance at Yoga Day programmes on Sunday.
“Sunday is the only day many families spend together. It is also a day of prayer and religious observance for many communities across Goa,” Chodankar said.
He said that the parents should have the freedom to decide how their children spend heir weekly holidays.
