Panaji: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Monday criticised Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and his party over a mimicry act at Gandhi’s event in Indore, saying political opposition should not descend into personal attacks on parents or elders.
A political controversy erupted after stand-up comedian Pulkit Mani mimicked Prime Minister Narendra Modi during Gandhi’s ‘Chhatron Ki Goonj’ event in Indore on Saturday. The BJP criticised Gandhi over the act, while the Congress defended it as satire and mimicry.
Reacting to the controversy in a post on X, Sawant said, “Shameful and deeply disturbing! Rahul Gandhi and the Congress party have crossed all limits of political decency.”
“Political opposition is an essential part of democracy, but it should never descend into personal attacks on someone’s parents or elders,” the Goa Chief Minister said.
He added, “Challenge policies. Question decisions. Debate fiercely. But respect our elders and parents.”
