Panaji: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will participate in the concluding day of the party’s 27-day ‘Goy Rakhonn Yatra’ (Save Goa March) in Goa on October 18, Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao said on Monday.
The yatra, which will traverse all 40 Assembly constituencies, will begin from Panaji on September 22 and conclude in Cuncolim on October 18. The Congress has positioned the campaign as a statewide movement highlighting issues concerning Goa ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections.
Alemao said Congress leader K. C. Venugopal will formally flag off the yatra at Priol on September 23.
“Rahul Gandhi will participate on the last day of the yatra, October 18,” Alemao said at a press conference.
The Congress leader said the yatra would highlight what the party described as the “wrongdoings” of the BJP-led government and urged people to participate in the campaign.
The yatra will cover all 40 constituencies over 27 days and travel approximately 355 km, according to the campaign’s official website.
Alemao said the chief ministers of four Congress-ruled states have been invited to participate in the yatra and have responded positively. Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and party leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra have also been invited, though their participation is yet to be confirmed.
The press conference was attended by Goa Pradesh Congress Committee President Girish Chodankar, AICC Goa Desk In-charge Manikrao Thakare, GPCC Working President Sunil Kawthankar, and other party leaders.
The Congress has said the yatra will focus on issues including land, unemployment, law and order, environmental concerns, and social harmony.
