Dona Paula: Before taking over the office on Tuesday afternoon, Goa’s new chief minister Pramod Sawant met the family members of his predecessor late Manohar Parrikar at their residence near here.
Sawant was sworn in as the new chief minister of the state in a late night ceremony by Governor on Monday.
The BJP MLA who was Speaker of Goa Legislative assembly had resigned from the post before taking over the new responsibility.
On Tuesday afternoon. Sawant visited the family members of Parrikar at their private residence at Dona Paula.
Talking to reporters after the meeting, Sawant said “Parrikar has been my father figure..My inspiration every thing. I am here only because of him…I became MLA then Speaker and now CM only because of him.”
“As a CM my aim would be to reach out to every person and complete his works,” he said.
Meanwhile, Sawant has appealed people in social media that to refrain from wishing him through bouquet and greetings as state is mourning death of Parrikar.
“I have taken charge with great humility and gratitude towards my idol and mentor Manoharbhai (Parrikar),” he said.
“I seek your blessings and support to carry ahead the glorious legacy of commitment towards good governance, ” he said.
The Governor, last night, also swore eleven other ministers in Sawant led cabinet from BJP, Goa forward party, MGP and Independents.
The Current dispensation has retained all the ministers from former Parrikar-led cabinet.
The final rites on remains of Manohar Parrikar was performed on Monday at Miramar Beach near here.
Several dignitaries including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP National President Amit Shah paid homage to the leader.
