CM announces compensation for the Cutbona fishing labourers

Cutbona: Chief minister Pramod Sawant on Wednesday announced a compensation of Rs five lakh each for the six labourers who had died due to dehydration at Cutbona jetty.
Sawant paid visit to the jetty along with State Environment minister Aleixo Sequeira and local MLA Cruz Silva on Wednesday to take stock of the situation, after six labourers working on fishing trawlers died, allegedly due to dehydration.

The chief minister said that the death of labourers is sad.
He announced compensation of Rs five lakh for each of the six labourer from the corpus fund of the state government. Sawant said that the respective boat owner should also pay Rs five lakh as a compensation to each of the labourer.

The chief minister said that of the total six death, three were brought in dead at the hospital. He said that safety of the labourers is responsibility of the boat owners.
Sawant said that the State Fisheries Department has been asked to draw Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for the labourers on the fishing boats.

“The State health department will also draw SOP for maintaining hygiene on the boats,” he said adding that District Collector and his sub-ordinate deputy collector has been asked to overall monitor the situation.

The chief minister said that the boat owners should take the responsibility of the hygiene on the vessel and about health of the labourers.
