Panaji: The Centre of Indian Trade Union (CITU), Goa unit has extended support to the demonstrating contract workers of Kadamba Transport Corporation who are demanding their regularization in service. “Contractualization of labour is turning out to be a cunning method of workers’ exploitation in general. Whether electricity or health department and teachers or lifeguards, the contract workers are being deprived of adequate salary and other benefits. The principle of equal pay for equal work is being trembled upon ruthlessly,” CITU stated in a press note.
“It is time that the working class of Goa wages an organized struggle for abolition of contractualization of labour in all government departments with regard to jobs of regular nature. The recent announcement of the Honorable chief minister to create ten thousand new jobs appears to be a cruel joke on the thousands of contract workers in various government departments, many of whom have been serving for several years.
We stand in solidarity with the workers of Kadamba Transport Corporation in their fight for justice,” it further stated.
