Panaji: AAP in Goa has said that their decision not to have alliance with Congress was taken after healthy discussions over the issue as the party felt that there is no answer to the most simple question that who will guarantee to the people of Goa that Congress MLAs will not jump to BJP once again.
AAP Goa President Amit Palekar in a statement issued has said that Congress is preparing to field its candidates in 2027 Goa Legislative Assembly election who are likely to join BJP after getting elected.
Palekar has issued statement on Wednesday evening after party’s working president Rajesh Kalangutkar resigned from the post and the party pointing out that AAP had closed doors on alliance with Congress.
“Aam Aadmi Party has received the resignation of Working President, Shri Rajesh Kalangutkar. In his letter, Kalangutkar referred to the issue of alliance with Congress as the main reason for his resignation,” Palekar said.
He added that as a party with strong internal democracy, we have had a number of healthy discussions over this issue; our clear and strong stand against an alliance with Congress has stemmed from the fact that there is no answer to the most simple question that is who will guarantee to the people of Goa that Congress MLAs will not jump to BJP once again?
Palekar said that far from any confidence building efforts being taken by the Congress party after back-to-back defections to BJP, Congress is preparing to field candidates in 2027 who are likely to jump to BJP in case they get elected.
“Just a few minutes ago, Congress party’s senior leader and ex-MP Shri Francisco Sardinha has made a categorical statement that if Congress doesn’t get a majority in 2027, then its MLAs will jump to BJP yet again,” he said.
Palekar said that Aam Aadmi Party cannot facilitate the formation of a BJP Government in Goa.
“Aam Aadmi Party will build an alliance directly with the people of Goa who have suffered from defections and misgovernance for far too long,” he added.
Palekar said that Since the alliance with the Congress party – that is desired by Rajesh Kalangutkar – will only lead to the formation of a BJP Government in Goa, the party cannot come to an agreement with him. Aam Aadmi Party has therefore accepted his resignation.
AAP has two MLAs in Goa legislative assembly. The party won for the first time in the coastal state during 2022 elections.
Party’s National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal during his three-day-long visit to the state had categorically stated that the party will not align with Congress for 2027 Goa elections.
