Panaji: Goa will create 6,000-8,000 more jobs through government recruitment over the next six months, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said on Saturday.
Addressing the 80th Independence Day celebrations, Sawant said the state government was taking steps to provide employment opportunities to youth through recruitment in various departments.
He said the government would create between 6,000 and 8,000 additional jobs over the next six months.
Speaking about infrastructure development, Sawant said improved roads, national highways, bridges, and elevated corridors had made travel easier for commuters across Goa.
He said the Porvorim elevated corridor near Panaji would be opened to the general public before Ganesh Chaturthi.
The Chief Minister also said the foundation stone for the new Borim bridge in South Goa would be laid soon, adding that the infrastructure projects would further improve connectivity and ease traffic congestion.
Highlighting the state’s social development initiatives, Sawant said Goa was the first state in the country to adopt the Happiness Index.
He also said Goa’s traditional theatre form, Tiatr, had been recognised as the 56th element in India’s Intangible Cultural Heritage inventory.
Sawant said the inclusion recognised the cultural significance of Tiatr and would help preserve and promote the state’s distinctive cultural heritage.
The Chief Minister said the state government’s development agenda was focused on improving infrastructure, creating employment opportunities, and preserving Goa’s cultural identity.
