Panaji: The Goa Forward Party (GFP) today filed a petition before National Green Tribunal (NGT) Principal Bench, New Delhi challenging Central Government decision to grant consent to Karnataka’s Kalasa-Banduri project for diversion of water from River Mahadayi.

GFP President Vijai Sardesai that the petition has been filed before NGT against consent granted by Union Ministry for Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC) to Karnataka for diversion of water from River Mahadayi.

Goa and Karnataka government is one of the respondent in the case.

“Petition filed in NGT will give an opportunity to Goa, Karnataka and MOEF Ministry to come clean if they are sincere about protecting Goa’s interest,” Sardesai said.

He said that Goa’s interest can’t be sacrificed at the altar of by-elections in Karanataka. “GFP will fight for justice for Goa,” former deputy Chief Minister said.
