Vasco: Coastal Police on Saturday arrested 15 men in connection with the deep sea robbery on a fishing trawler between the coast of Goa and Malvan (Maharashtra).

A senior police official said that 15 men headed by one Narayan Adkar was arrested for robbery of fish and navigational equipments, around 60-65 nautical miles away from Goa coast between Goa and Malvan.

Trawler owner Joao Fernandes from Goa had filed a complaint with State Coastal Police alleging that on May 29 at around 8 a.m., a group of 15 men trespassed into his trawler and robbed the fish and equipments.

The group had arrived with another trawler at the spot, he said.

As per the complaint, 100 boxes of kingfish and other stock including mackerel, and ribbon fish were robbed by the group, which also took away navigational instruments and wireless phone from the crew after holding them hostage.

Coastal police have booked the accused under section 143 (unlawful assembly), 147 (rioting), 341 (wrongful restrain), 379 (theft) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of Indian Penal Code.
