You may face jail, if you don’t wear mask in public place

Panaji: Even as the state continued reporting spike in the COVID-19 cases, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Monday said that the government is contemplating the possibility of jail punishment for those who move around without mask.

As per Health Department’s bulletin,  Goa on Monday detected 53 new cases of COVID-19 infection while 46 patients were recovered and sent back home from covidcare facilities.

With this, the total number of COVID-19 cases reported in the state has touched a mark of 1251 of which 724 are active, 524 recovered and three have died.

Out of 1833 samples tested on Monday, the bulletin mentions that 1367 are negative, while report of 413 patients is awaited.

Sawant on Monday stressed the need for more stringent implementation of the rules imposed to curb the spread of virus.

The chief minister said that  people should maintain social distancing and wear masks while in public places.

“I have asked police to be more strict against those who are not wearing masks. If required, we will increase the penalty and also may even send them to jail,” he told reporters.
