Cuncolim: The initial investigations into the murder of Diksha Gangwar by her husband at Rajbag beach has drawn certain similarities with that of Scarlet Eden Keeling and Siddhi Naik, though these crimes are not related to each other.

Gaurav Katiyar (29) was arrested for allegedly drowning his wife Diksha Gangwar (27) on Friday at Cabo de Rama beach. Cuncolim police had arrested him on Saturday, after his attempt to show the entire murder as an accident failed.

As per a senior Forensic Department official, all the deceased — Diksha, Scarlet and Siddhi Naik, had died in a shallow sand water.

Most of the time, the deaths due to drowning in shallow sand water are cases of murder as no one can die in such less water due to drowning, unless forced to, he said.

The official said that the deaths in shallow sand water are of homicide and not suicide or accident.

POSTMORTEM ON DISKHA’S BODY ON MONDAY

The forensic department official, attached to South Goa District Hospital, also said that the postmortem on the body of the deceased would be conducted on Monday (tomorrow).

He stated that the medical examination of the accused held on Saturday has shown the marks of injuries due to scratching on his chest.

“There are marks on the chest, usually when there is scuffle. There is a possibility that the deceased tried to save her and in the bargain had stretched the chest of the accused,” he said.

Meanwhile, the accused was remanded to five days police custody by Judicial Magistrate First Class, Margao.
