In the wake of what some consider as controversial statement by party chief Elvis Gomes that ‘few priests were congress agents ‘ , AAP leader Sidhart Karapurkar said that the party has never asked for votes of minorities but of all Goans as the party was not for vote bank politics which was a legacy of the BJP and the Congress that had ‘fractured the spirit of Goans as one community . Replying to reporters query posed to Elvis Gomes (which he declined to answer) after the filing of nomination of party’s candidate Valmiki Naik for the Panaji By-election , Sidhart said that it was the Congress that has always considered minority vote as their monopoly , and likewise the BJP has self monopolised majority vote without giving anything in return to both the minorities or the majorities except calling them ‘toilet cleaners’ and celebrating it with loud thumping of desks in the assembly.
Meanwhile AAP said that Panaji was gearing to vote out both the BJP as well as the Congress to signal the beginning of the end of their ‘joint rule’ from the soil of Goa. Convenor Elvis Gomes said that the youth must now take responsibility of their future. “They (youth) cannot afford to entrust it anymore in the hands of either the BJP or the Congress. If the youth are to benefit and get a secure future, AAP is a better option as it has a proven track record in Delhi of working for the children, and youth”
