Union Home minister has assured to resolve ST reservation matter: CM

Panaji: Chief minister Dr Pramod Sawant on Sunday met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi over the issue of reservation for Scheduled Tribe community in the state legislative assembly.

Chief minister’s office said that Sawant met the Union Home Minister and requested for expediting the matter of reservation of seats in Goa Legislative Assembly for ST population.

The ST community in Goa have been agitating, demanding that they should be given reservation in the Goa legislative assembly before the 2027 polls.

Sawant said that the Union Home minister has assured resolution of the matter.

The chief minister said that the delegation of ST community, which is in New Delhi, could not be a part of the meeting “owing to the last minute exigency.”

“However, the Union Home minister will meet them on the next occasion,” Sawant said.

In the recent past, the chief minister had assured that the centre will form the Delimitation Commission before the Lok Sabha elections (2024) and the reservation would be granted by 2027 Goa assembly polls.
