Panaji: While claiming that some elements were trying to instigate the Taxi Operators vis-à-vis Manohar International Airport at Mopa, State Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte on Sunday said that there will be enough number of Taxis and other conveyance for the passengers arriving on the flights at new facility from January 05 onwards.

The first flight is scheduled to arrive at Mopa International Airport on January 05. Goa government has already started the process to allot spots for the Taxi Operators at the new Airport with the preference to those from Pernem taluka. MIA is in Pernem taluka.

Khaunte said that the issue of Taxi Operators would be solved by January 05 when there would be enough number of vehicles available for the passengers arriving at this Airport.

He said that the State government is also planning to ply State-run Kadamba Transport Corporation Limited’s buses from this Airport for the passengers, who do not want to take Taxi to reach to their destinations.

Khaunte said that the State government has already advertised and started getting on board the Taxi Operators. He said that the queue system on line with the one available on all other Airports would be introduced at MIA.

The Tourism Minister said that the State has also developed a dedicated “Goa Taxi App” for the Taxi operators, which would be functional once it is cleared by Sawant-led cabinet.

When asked about the recent protest by some of the Taxi Operators, Khaunte said that one of the MLA, who is not from Pernem taluka, was instigating the Taxi Operators trying to hinder state government’s plans of having Taxi App.

“The App is something that is technoolgy driven. Some people who are taxi mafia who do not want others to prosper have made Goa as Taxi den. Vote bank politics is being played by one of the MLA,” he said.

Refusing to name the MLA, Khaunte said that the same politician will project himself as saviour of Taxi operators pretend to be working for their interest, while actually, he is making them suffer.
