Panaji: Three fishermen were rescued after their canoe capsized in a river near Morjim beach in North Goa on Wednesday, officials said.
The incident occurred at around noon when a local resident alerted Drishti Marine lifesavers about the canoe overturning in the river adjoining Morjim beach in North Goa.
A jet ski was immediately deployed to the spot. Drishti Marine lifesaver captain and another lifesaver rescued two fishermen from the water, while the third fisherman was safely assisted onto an accompanying canoe, officials said.
All three fishermen were brought to safety and were reported to be in good condition, they said.
Goa is currently witnessing the peak of the southwest monsoon, with strong winds, rough seas and turbulent waters making the coastline unsafe for swimming. Swimming remains prohibited at the state’s beaches during the monsoon season, while a seasonal fishing ban is also in force.
Drishti Marine has deployed over 450 trained lifesavers and beach marshals across major beaches, waterfalls and four inland water bodies in Goa to respond to emergencies during the monsoon, officials added.
