Panaji: Several Congress women activists were amongst those detained in Panaji during the agitation against as a nationwide protest against price rise, unemployment, Agnipath scheme and GST in essential commodities.
Goa Pradesh Congress Committee President Amit Patkar and Goa Pradesh Mahila Congress Committee President Beena Naik were amongst the 50-odd workers who were arrested in Panaji.
The Congress workers began their protest march from party’s state head office but were stopped on the way to Azad Maidan, located 500 metres away.
Patkar said that the detention was unwarranted as the protest was peaceful and workers were going to Azad Maidan.
“BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi is not in a mood to listen to any dissent. People are upset against the price rise,” he said.
Congress MLA Carlose Alvares Ferreira said that the BJP is trying to have one nation one party. “The patience of people is running out. It will not be late before the people will rise up against the dictatorship of BJP,” he said.
All the workers were later taken to Panaji police station.
