Panaji: Shiv Sena today petitioned Director General of Police Muktesh Chandar against Saguem police inspector Sagar Ekoskar demanding his immediate suspension from the services and initiate inquiry against him.
Sena’s delegation led by Goa chief Jitesh Kamat, Vice president Rakhi Prabhudesai Naik and others met the DGP briefing him about the conduct of Ekoskar.
They have accused him of being involved in “series of attacks including custodial assault on the people in his jurisdiction.”
“His atrocities have become order of the day with the poor and uneducated people falling prey for his tactics. There are several instances in which he has been exposed beating people in the police station, undoing the position of a police officer and also threatening the citizens,” reads the memorandum submitted to the DGP.
“ He has already been facing inquiry for assaulting Amit Naik who was wanted by Pune Court in connection with the summons issued against him. Naik was so badly beaten up that he was admitted in Goa Medical college and hospital for kidney problems and continued being there for next seven days,” memorandum reads.
Sena has said “The latest incident is about elected representative Janu Zore belonging to Dhangar community who was assaulted in the police station by Ekoskar without any provocation.”
The memorandum says:
Zore had accompanied his brother to the police station and had objected to the bad words fired by Ekoskar to his family. Zore was badly beaten up and his mobile was smashed besides arresting him under preventive law.
He was admitted to Hospicio Hospital in Margao for two days.
Ekoskar has been indulging in rampant misuse of power. In a hit and run case, one Laxman Gaonkar who was hit by a car was left with his both legs and a hand fractured. But no offence was registered as Ekoskar refused to entertain him.
Gaonkar is currently being treated at Hospicio Hospital in Margao.
We would like to bring to your notice that the atrocities of Ekoskar goes unnoticed as Sanguem police station does not have working CCTV cameras. They are out of order for long and he has refused to repair them.
The police station diary is always fiddled with by him as he is absent on his chair for most of the time. The private inquiries have revealed that he has set up a factory at Cacora Industrial Estate, which he has got registered in the name of his brother.
We demand that an independent investigation should be conducted in the misdeeds of Ekoskar and pending inquiry he should be suspended. We are ready to provide all the necessary documents and witnesses to support our claim against Ekoskar.
We humbly request you that if top police officers continue ignoring the acts of Ekoskar, some day, there would be a big incident like custodial death in Sanguem police station which will bring bad repute to the entire force.
