Panaji: The recent raid on a factory at Pissurlem seizing huge quantity of Ketamine has raised questions on the credibility of functioning of Food and Drug Administration department.
The FDA inspectors who are supposed to check the factories, even unlicenced one, had no information about the production of Ketamine or were shielding it.
FDA Director Jyoti Sardesai is currently abroad, while Medha Desai who is officiating in her position feigned complete ignorance.
“FDA role comes into picture only when premises are licenced,” she said. she added that they have no information about the raid as it was conducted by the central agency.
So now the question remains is that if any establishment which is supposed to get the licence from FDA does not do it, will the government not even check it? FDA does not have intelligence gathering? Why were the local inspectors not questioned?
