Panaji: The Election process for the five municipal councils stands to be rescheduled after Supreme Court upheld High Court’s order against the reservations of the wards.

SC on Friday upheld the HC order vacating the interim stay granted for it. This means, the elections for the municipal council of Margao, Mormugao, Mapusa, Sanguem and Quepem has been postponed.

As per the court order, the State election commission will have to rework on notification of the wards. The court has ordered that the process should be completed by April 30.

The matter was prominently fought by Goa Forward Party through its lawyer Advocate Atmaram Nadkarni while Congress had also filed a petition in the Apex Court.
