Margao: Goa government on Saturday decided to hold random testing of the people living in the slum areas around the hospital, where COVID-19 patients are admitted in Margao town.
State Health Minister Vishwajit Rane said that the testing of the areas around ESI Hospital in Margao, which is a specialized facility set up to treat COVID-19 patients, will be undertaken.
Staff of the hospital had tested positive this week after which State government has taken up this step.
Rane said “in view of rising cases at ESI quarters, I have given instructions to Secretary Health to conduct mass testing of all employees at ESI quarters.”
“In addition, random testing will be conducted at Azad Nagar and Moti Dongar (both slum areas) which are next to the COVID hospital,” he said.
The minister said that leader of opposition Digambar Kamat, who is also Margao MLA, had requested for such a testing to be conducted.
“We are taking all precautionary measures in the interest of the people of Goa,” he said.
Goa has more than 400 cases who have tested positive for COVID-19 infection.
State has already declared Mangor Hill, Vasco in South Goa and Ghodemal in Sattari taluka of North Goa as containment zones. Pti rps
