Porvorim: Independent MLA Rohan Khaunte has asked Public Works Department Minister Deepak Pauskar to look into the grave issue of water shortage faced by people of Porvorim constituency.

He has also reminded the minister about incomplete work of water treatment plant and his request to stop new connections to the big residential complexes in the area, at the cost of the people who are already living in the constituency.

Khaunte has urged the minister to “personally pay visit to the constituency and hear the grievances of the people staying here as regards to roads and water supply.”

The letter mentions that the people living in Porvorim constituency has been facing acute water shortage, and the issue has been brought to the notice of Pauskar, but had evoked no reply from him.

“The Water Treatment Plant would have been an ideal solution to this issue. However, the project is slow and is far from commissioning till date. Furthermore, I have formerly requested to stop all new connections to big residential complexes and commercial establishments due to the water problems faced by existing residents of Porvorim,” Khaunte said.

The MLA has said that there has been a recent issue where release of water connection was needed. “Although we had followed up with the work, the same was on hold due to inadequate water supply at Abhinav Water Tank, which supplies water to Gopalnagar Housing Board and other neighbouring areas. Surprisingly , the BJP local unit has made this a political issue,” he added.

“I have been made to understand through your Sub-Division and media that your good self was personally involved in releasing these connections. I would now request you to put similar interest as shown in this incident in the issue of water shortage faced by the people of Porvorim for years together,” the letter adds.
