While I am glad that my dream of turning Goa into a Knowledge Hub as projected in my editorial is being given a fillip by the CMOs move to constitute a committee for enabling Private Universities, I would request the CM who’s also the Education Minister to ensure Transparency in the proceedings.
There should be a clear onus on boosting the present Government infrastructure on which the majority of the population relies upon. So while promoting Private Universities, the Committee must ensure that there’s a level playing field for students who will continue to rely on the Government Educational setup.
Right To Education also includes Right to Equal Opportunity and we must bring our Government institutions on par so that there’s healthy competition between the Have’s & Have Not’s.
I can only hope that the CMOs shows transparency on this sensitive subject of Education and doesn’t end up with biased & personal profit motivated closed
door policies as has been the practice of CMOs on all matters till date. Arbitrary suppression of information and autocratic approach shouldn’t spoil this opportunity to turn Goa into a Knowledge Hub and help boost our economy.
Clarity on the subject and open door discussions with all stakeholders should be adopted to ensure that the pros and cons of the implementation are made known to the general public who’re finally the deciding factor in a democracy.
