Panaji: President of India Ram Nath Kovind will be participating in the cultural event organised by Goa government to celebrate 60th year of Goa Liberation on December 19, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said.
Sawant said that the President of India will be arriving in the State on December 19 on two day long visit on the occasion of Goa’s Liberation Day. The state was liberated from Portuguese rule on December 19, 1961.
The chief minister said that the President will not be participating in the state level Liberation Day flag hoisting to be held in the morning. Sawant will unfurl the national flag in the function at Campal Stadium in Panaji.
He said that President of India would be arriving in the afternoon in the state after which he will be going to Raj Bhavan near here.
In the evening, the President along with Governor, AYUSH minister Shripad Naik and the Chief Minister will be laying wrath on the martyr’s memorial at Azad Maidan near here after which he will be participating in the cultural event organised at D B Bandodkar ground.
Around 150-200 Goan artists will be participating in the cultural event.
The President of India will also be addressing the people of Goa on the occasion of Liberation Day, the chief minister said.
Sawant said that the state government has planned a year long celebration which will showcase various cultural and social aspects of Goa to the world. The chief minister said that various memorials associated with the Liberation movement will also be given facelift by the government.
