Post Master working at Morjim arrested for duping depositors in Goa

Panaji: Goa police on Wednesday arrested a postal department employee for duping the depositors to the tune of Rs 8.37 lakh from the year 2021 till 2023.

A senior police said that Narayan Bhage, a resident of Talavane (Sawantwadi, Maharashtra) working as a Branch Post Master at Morjim in North Goa, was arrested on Wednesday.

The complaint was registered against him by Inspector of Posts, Mapusa Sub Division on August 04, 2023 that the accused while working as Branch Post Master of Morjim post office accepted the cash amount from various depositors total worth Rs 8,37,050 and did not credit the same to their respective accounts for the period between August 01, 2021 to February 07, 2023, the official said.

He said that the accused was absconding after commissioning of the offence. Police formed different teams to trace the accused person with the help of electronic and technical surveillance.

The official said that the accused was arrested at Border Check post at Pernem.
