Porvorim Police Bust Illegal Cricket Betting Racket, Three Arrested

Porvorim: Goa police have arrested three persons for accepting bets on the Champions Trophy cricket match between India and Bangladesh.

A police spokesperson stated that the raid was conducted by Porvorim police on Thursday at a rented bungalow in Pilerne after receiving reliable information about illegal betting activities.

During the raid, three men from Gujarat—Maksud Modan (28), Aasifbhai Jiyaudeenbhai (25), and Rizvan Bhash (20)—were arrested for accepting bets.

The police seized betting-related items worth ₹1.1 lakh, including four mobile phones, a laptop, a router, and other equipment.

An FIR under Sections 3 and 4 of the Goa, Daman, and Diu Public Gambling Act has been registered against all three accused.

The raiding team included PI Rahul Parab, PSI Sitaram Malik, PSI Arun Shirodkar, and constables Mahadev Naik, Akash Naik, Nitesh Gawde, and Siddhesh Naik.

Further investigation is underway under the supervision of SDPO Porvorim Vishwesh Karpe and SP North Akshat Kaushal, IPS.
