Curchorem : Earlier today morning Quepem and Curchorem police had detained around 100 workers of the Fomento mines at Guddeghal. The workers were protesting against the company’s contract policy.
According to the workers the issue began in 2015, in this year 219 workers were terminated from the company. Besides writing letters to the government explaining the issue they also protested peacefully. “PWD Minister Deepak Pauskar before election had assured to stand in support of us” said Nilesh Naik, President of Workers Association of Guddeghal Mines.
The workers informed that while they were terminated the government allowed transportation of e-auctioned ore from which the mining companies have hired contract labourers. They lamented contending that “After termination we got half payment from company because we are regular workers of company, but now that has stopped too, this is a matter of our livelihood”
