Panaji: Threatening to intensifying their agitation on Mahadayi issue on December 31, a Goa-based NGO on Wednesday appealed the tourists to think twice before arriving in Goa to celebrate their New Year festivities.

Progressive Front of Goa (PFG), a front of political parties and like minded citizens, formed to save Mahadayi river from being diverted condemned action of union government to write to Karnataka stating that environment Clearance is not required for Kalsa Bhanduri project.

PFG leader Hrudaynath Shirodkar talking to reporters  in Panaji on Wednesday demanded that Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant should resign owing responsibility for failure to protect Mahadayi within 48 hours.

He said that the NGO would not allow any of the CM’s function in the State till he resigns from the post.

Shirodkar said NGO would be intensifying their agitation on December 31, due to which the tourists who are arriving in the State to usher in New year festivities may have to face hardship.

“We appeal all the tourists to think twice before planning their New year celebrations in Goa,” he said.

Union Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Prakash Javadekar on December 24 had written to Karnataka government claiming that EC was not required for Kalsa Bhanduri project on Mahadayi river.

We have appealed all the MLAs to join the agitation as it is about saving the River, which is lifeline of Goa,” he said.
