Benaulim: A video of a local fisherman rescuing an aged Russian man who was battling for his life at Benaulim beach in South Goa on Tuesday is going viral in the coastal state.
Fisherman Francis Fernandes, who is popularly known as Pele, is seen rushing to help the struggling Russian man, in his late 60s, who had ventured into the water along with his female partner.
The video extensively documents the rescue operation conducted by Pele using his jet ski on Benaulim shore.
When contacted, Pele stated that he noticed the aged Russian man struggling to reach the shore as he was caught in the rip currents on Tuesday. “I immediately rushed to their rescue with my jet ski,” he said.
“I could save him just in time. I pulled him onto my jet ski and then came back to the shore,” he added.
In the video that has gone viral, Pele is heard telling the Russian couple that he respects tourists as they are his bread and butter.
