Panaji: Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant on Wednesday announced the cancellation of his birthday celebration scheduled for tomorrow, April 24, due to the lives lost in the terror attack at Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir.
Addressing a press conference after chairing the state cabinet meeting, Sawant said that all events related to seva (services), such as the planned medical camp, will be held as scheduled.
Due to the lives lost in the terror attack, I cancel all my functions planned to celebrate my birthday tomorrow. Only those programmes which include seva, like the medical camp, will continue: Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant.
The Chief Minister said he will not be available to accept birthday greetings at his personal residence in Sankhalim or at his official residence in Panaji.
I request all my party workers and well-wishers to kindly not come to wish me on my birthday: Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant.
Condemning the act of terror, the Chief Minister said: We offer our condolences to the families of the victims and pray for the early recovery of the injured.
Government of Goa supports the Government of India in bringing the terrorists to justice. We stand with the people of Jammu and Kashmir in rejecting terrorism and upholding peace, harmony, and the rule of law: Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant.
The Chief Minister also stated that it is shameful that people were shot after being asked about their faith.
