Panaji : MLAs including Digambar Kamat, Vijai Sardesai, Jayesh Salgaocar, Churchill Alemao, Alexio Reginaldo and Prasad Gaokar submitted a memorandum to the South Goa collector to stop the land acquisition for railways double tracking.

“We have requested the collector to postpone today’s hearing which is to be held in Vasco because landowners, revenue authorities and railway authorities need to be present for the hearing,” said Kamat.

Vijai Sardesai the Goa Forward Party chief and MLA of fatorda said “In 2018 the chief secretary had received a letter in 2018 that Railway act can be used in special railway projects only and the current double tracking of railways is not a special railway project, hence the land acquisition is illegal”

He also slammed the government for using a ‘divide and rule policy’ he went on say that “on a same stretch of land two acts are being used, one land is being acquired under land acquisition act awhile another land is being acquired under fair compensation act, why are two different laws applied to the same stretch of land?” asked Sardesai.
