Panaji: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant today said that the operation to pump out the gas will begin from Octobet 31.
A ship tanker with 2600 metric tonnes of naphtha, 50 tonnes of heavy oil and 19 tonnes diesel has run aground near Dona Paula waters , 2.5 nautical miles from the coast.
Chief Minister today reviewed the situation in a joint meeting with chaired a meeting with MPT, coast guard, North Goa collector.
Post meeting, Sawnt said that the operation of pumping out Naphtha will begin from Oct 31, which may take around four days.
He said that the Naphtha from the ship will be emptied in two barges, before it is towed away to a safer position.
He said that high powered pump, to pump out Naphtha has reached Mormugao Port Trust (MPT) and the same will be air lifted on the ship using Defence helicopter.
