AAP women’s wing came down heavily on Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Govind Gaude for threatening to stop the sale of onions at a subsidised rates through Fair Price Shops.

“Onion which is the key ingredient of Goan cuisine was available in the open market for Rs. 120 per kg,” pointed out Patricia Fernandes

AAP pointed out that the Civil Supplies department was selling onions at Rs. 32 per kg through the fair price shops while Horticulture Corporation was selling for Rs 75 per kg through its authorised kiosks.

“If the Civil Supplies department can sell onions for Rs 32 per kg including the transportation cost and a profit of Rs 3 per kg to the FPS owner, why is Horticulture Corporation selling them for Rs. 75 per kg?” asked Patricia Fernandes

AAP alleged that corruption within the Horticulture Corporation and commissions paid to various people was the cause for the high prices.

“Here we have another example of the Govt. blatantly indulging in corruption at the plight of Goans. Due the pandemic the income of many Goans was hit and now skyrocketing prices of essentials will only stress Goans financially” She said

“Just because some people questioned the varying prices of onions in two different government departments one does not threaten to stop sale,” said
AAP pointed out that Goans are facing unemployment due to the pandemic and are now burdened with high prices of all commodities.

Aam Aadmi Party’s women’s wing today castigated the Bharatiya Janata Party government in Goa for its total insensitivity to the needs of the people and brazen bullying tactics to intimidate those that ask questions.

AAP demanded that prices of all commodities and specially onions be brought down immediately to enable Goans to at least have a proper festive meal this Diwali.

“Diwali this year is lackluster because of the pandemic, let it not be a starved festival due to the high cost of onions,” said Patricia Fernandes
