Panaji:  Congress’ student wing on Friday welcomed the decision of union government to ban e-cigarettes in the country, while demanding that all kind of tobacco products should be banned.

National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) Goa Chief Ahraz Mulla in a letter to Union Finance Minister has welcomed central government’s recent decision of banning e-cigarettes in India to protect the future of youth of the country.

“NSUI appreciates your stand to ban E-Cigarettes, but at the same time we strongly feel it defies logic taking into consideration the surprising move of not touching the regular cigarettes and other tobacco products,” the NSUI has said.

Mulla said that the the selective nature of the ban makes it problematic for the people of the country, in this exercise what the government failed to mention with equal vigour was that conventional cigarettes are far more injurious than e-cigarettes.

“The nicotine consumption and the addiction that follows after puffing conventional cigarettes is far more than the one caused by E-Cigarettes. And This does’nt mean E-Cigarettes are non injurious to Health,” he said.

Mulla has said that if the government was indeed concerned about the youth of the country we strongly believe that the attack should have been directly been to the regular cigarettes and tobacco products which is the root cause rather than a secondary cause.

“Taking into consideration the above points in the interest of the people of the country, NSUI Goa strongly demands the government to also ban the regular cigarettes and other tobacco products which are the root cause of tobacco related deaths in our country and kills every second person who consumes it,” the letter adds.
