Panaji: Union Finance Minister Nirmala Seetharaman on Friday said that the Group of Ministers in the centre were working to “restore something” on the mining front for Goa.

The Iron Ore mining industry in Goa has come to a standstill since more than one year now with dependents on it demanding intervention from the centre to resume it.

Supreme Court had quashed 88 mining leases crippling the entire industry.

“Group of Ministers is working on the issue. We had Chief Minister of Goa who had come to Delhi and participated in the meetings of GOM,” Seetharaman said responding to a question in Goa at the sidelines of GST Council meeting which began on Friday.

“GOM has made progress in it and they are discussing with key interest to restore something for Goa,” she said.

Goa Mining People’s Front, a union of mining dependents, has sought appointment with Seetharaman to press the demand for resumption of mining industry in the State.
