Panaji: The Bharatiya Janata Party in Goa on Thursday protested against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in the capital city of Panaji by burning his effigy.

The protest was held near Congress House in Panaji, which serves as the state headquarters for the Kharge-led party.

After shouting slogans against Rahul Gandhi, the protestors burned his effigy on the main road.

BJP Yuva Morcha Goa President Samir Mandrekar, speaking to reporters, said that Congress was crying foul over the National Herald scam, which he claimed was actually a wrongdoing by party leaders.

Mandrekar said that Congress was unnecessarily blaming the BJP for chargesheeting Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi in the National Herald scam.

He pointed out that the case was filed during the tenure of the UPA government by Subramanian Swamy in 2012, when he had not yet joined the BJP.

Mandrekar alleged that the Congress party was involved in money laundering, which led to the case being filed against them.

He said that the properties of the National Herald, which were meant for social purposes, were usurped by the Gandhis.

They could have used these properties for the welfare of freedom fighters when the National Herald was shut down. But instead, they tried to enjoy the profits for their own benefit, Mandrekar said.
