Panaji: A senior Congress leader in Goa on Wednesday opined against forging pre-poll alliance with NCP ahead of upcoming state legislative assembly election.

Member of Parliament (South) Fransisco Sardinha told reporters that NCP and its MLA Churchill Alemao should think of tying with the BJP, as they always had understanding with each other during all these years in the state.

Sardinha also went on to term Churchill Alemao as a “smuggler.”

Sardinha was reacting to the statement by NCP leader Prafulla Patel on Sunday wherein he had said that Sharad Pawar-led party is open for pre-poll alliance with like-minded parties including congress.

“NCP should ask for 50 per cent seats from BJP in Goa elections,” he said blaming Alemao for being the pioneer of corruption in the state.

Earlier on Monday, Goa Forward party was quick enough to respond and accept the proposal floated by the NCP leader. GFP President Vijai Sardesai said that he is agreeable for alliance with like minded parties for 2022 Goa assembly election.
