Panaji: Issuing birth certificates and making corrections in certificates will be eased and speeded up and efficient civic administration will be prioritised, newly appointed Margao Municipal Council (MMC) chief officer Agnelo Fernandes said adding that procedures will be simplified for  people of Goan origins.
Speaking to reporters, Fernandes said that “Instructions have been given to section heads to ensure efficient delivery of services. The results will be visible soon.”
Responding to complaints about fish vendors carrying out their trade by the roadsides, Fernandes said that MMC will begin a drive from next week. “The stock of fish will be confiscated and donated to orphanages and old age homes,” Fernandes said. Anti-plastic drives, deferred due to various reasons, will also be started soon, he added.
Talking on the collection of data on street vendors whose trade suffered due to the pandemic Fernandes said, “The data would facilitate the civic body to help vendors avail of the PM Street Vendor’s AtmaNirbhar Nidhi (PM SVANidhi) scheme that entitles vendors to a loan of Rs10,000.”
Additionally, Fernandes informed MMC has identified two places – one near the power house, Aquem, and the other near the station road, Ravanfond – to set up street vending zones. It may be recalled that around 200 vendors have already been identified by MMC as beneficiaries of the scheme
