MMC CO Siddhivinayak Naik swungs into action, overhead illegal cables to go first

Margao: Margao Municipal Council Chief Officer  Siddhivinayak Naik has begun cleaning the mess in the city. In a public notice issued on the newspapers, the municipality has decided to remove all the overhead cables causing public nuisance and giving filthy look to the commercial capital of Goa.

Naik has recently taken over as Chief Officer of the municipality and since then have been working overtime to fix the mess.

In a notice that is issued, the municipality has said that the overhead cables except that of Electricity Department and BSNL would be removed under section 17 of Goa Municipalities Act, 1968.

“It is therefore directed that opportunity of seven days is hereby given to voluntarily remove all such overhead cables. Therefore council will take no responsibility of the loss caused during the said operations,” the notice reads.

The municipality has also decided to act against encroachment on public passages, which has been continuing for several years.

“Also under the provisions of the above Act, the Margao Municipal Council would act against illegal encroachments on public passages/roads createdby illegal barricading thereby causing nuisance to the public parking etc. The concerned shall remove such projections from road and parking slots forthwith, failing which this office would act on its own without any further notice,” the notice reads.

The municipality has also asked the citizens to make up to date payment of trade licence, house tax and others. The drive would be undertaken by municipality to collect arrears.
