Panaji: Mahila Congress Committee has demanded an apology from their senior-most MLA Pratapsingh Rane for his statement terming Goan diaspora as ‘toilet cleaners’.
While speaking in the Legislative Assembly on August 3, Rane, a former Chief Minister and Speaker, had said that Goans who work abroad do toilet cleaning jobs.
Miffed over Rane’s statement, Mahila Congress President Pratima Coutinho has demanded that the senior leader should admit his mistake and apologize to all those Goans working abroad and their families. “Mahila Congress is hurt by the statement of senior Rane and with all humility apologize to the people working abroad and their dependents,” she said.
“We humbly request our senior leader Rane to admit the mistake and apologize to the people of Goa for hurting their sentiments,” she demanded.
Taking a dig at Rane’s leadership as Chief Minister, Coutinho said “we congress ruled the State for many years but failed to create the required employment thus forcing people to move abroad for jobs and survival’.
