Margao: Lawyers have done a lot of things for the growth of this country. A preparation of the lawyer and a well read lawyer is required for the Judge to deliver a good judgment. All the celebrated judgments, which we come across, its only because of the valuable assistance of the lawyers that the Judges could deliver good judgments. A lawyer can contribute and assist the Court only if he is well prepared and he knows the law, said Justice Mr. Prakash D. Naik, Judge Bombay High Court.
He was addressing the lawyers at the interactive session on the topic ‘Conducting Criminal Trials in NDPS matters’, which was organized at Ravindra Bhavan, Margao, by the South Goa Advocates Association (SGAA). Others present on the dais were Adv. Prasad Naik, President of the SGAA, Adv. Pritam Morais, Moderator of the Session, and Adv. Rohit Shirodkar, Secretary of SGAA.
Earlier, delivering the welcome address, Adv. Prasad Naik said that use of drugs is a serious threat to the present as well as future generations and unfortunately, many times, the accused in such heinous crimes escape the clutches of law only because of defective investigation. Adv. Prasad Naik suggested that the Government should seek legal assistance from advocates to help the police in preparing a proper chargesheet so that the accused don’t get away solely on account of defective investigation or technical defects in the charge sheet.
In the interactive session, Justice Prakash D. Naik spoke about the various aspects of conducting trial in NDPS cases. The talk was largely attended by members of the judiciary, Public Prosecutors, Lawyers and law students. The interactive session was moderated by Adv. Pritam Morais.
The South Goa Advocates Association also launched its own website on the occasion at the hands of Justice Prakash D. Naik. The website has been designed by the students of Don Bosco College of Engineering, Fatorda. The students team comprising of Dhruv Rajendra Naik, Nikhil Ravindra Rao, Ved Kush Kerkar and Vedant Govind Gad alongwith Assistant Professor Manisha Fal Dessai were present at the launch ceremony and they were also felicitated at the hands of Justice Prakash D. Naik. Adv. John Monteiro introduced the Guest and Adv. Rohit Shirodkar proposed the Vote of Thanks. Earlier, Adv. Chuvo Barbosa gave a brief description of the entire website of South Goa Advocates Association. The domain name of the website is southgoaadvocatesassociation.com. The function was compered by Adv Jonathan Costa and Adv. Ashwini Colaco.
